Lyrarakis 2023 Liatiko PGI Crete

The 2023 Lyrarakis Liatiko is a graceful, expressive red from Crete—showcasing the Liatiko grape’s bright cherry/berry aromas, soft tannins, and fresh acidity. Its light structure and savory depth make it perfect for casual, Mediterranean-style fare and everyday enjoyment.

🍇 Origins & Grape

  • Made from 100 % Liatiko, an ancient red grape native to Crete—known for pale color, fragrant wild-cherry aroma, and elegant tannins

  • The fruit comes from head-trained, unirrigated vineyards planted on limestone-rich soils at around 650 m altitude

🍷 Vinification & Winemaking

  • 2023 vintage; hand-harvested grapes and fermented with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel at around 23 °C after 5-day maceration

  • Light élevage in tank; bottled without filtration, vegan-friendly, ~13.5% ABV .

👃 Aromatics

  • Bright nose brimming with dark cherry, wild berries, herbaceous notes, and a hint of earthiness

  • Also shows delicate spice tones—cinnamon, licorice—along with fresh herbal and saline undertones

👅 Palate & Texture

  • Light to medium-bodied with lively acidity and fine-grained tannins.

  • Juicy fruits—sour cherry, raspberry, plum—play alongside savory herbs and mineral grip

  • Balanced tannins and refreshing finish make it graceful yet vibrant.

🍂 Finish

  • Persistent, balanced finish with light earthy-licorice and a subtle peppery flourish

🌟 Style & Appeal

  • Seen as a light, elegant Cretan red—versatile and food-friendly.

  • Recommended pairings: pizza, pasta, seafood in tomato sauce, grilled vegetables, and gentle lamb dishes
